Former Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Henry Kalulu, has been elected as the new chairperson of the Exodus SACCO, a Savings and Credit Corporative institution for the police force.

Currently a senior protocol officer in the Police Force’s department of Protocol, honours and ceremonies, Kalulu was elected during the SACCO’s annual general meeting held at UMA hall in Lugogo on June 19.

Kalulu beat Masaka police spokesperson Noah Sserunjogi to the post after he garnered 126 votes against Sserunjogi’s six votes.

“My Heartfelt thanks go to all the commanders and delegates from across the country who requested me to stand and they supported me all through! Special thanks also go to those colleagues who stood by me through thick and thin,” Kalulu stated immediately after his election.

Kalulu vowed to steer the SACCO formed in 2007 to greater heights and thanked his predecessor, I senior commissioner of police Laban Muhabwe for a job well done.

New Vision online has learned that Muhabwe has since retired to go and stand as a member of parliament in Bushenyi.

The Police SACCO has grown over the years and now boasts of 27,000 members of who include policemen and their family members as well as some policemen who have retired. The entire police force has about 50,000 officers.

According to Kalulu, the SACCO was started to improve the welfare of policemen. “It is now like a bank where members deposit cash for saving purposes but can as well withdraw their money any time,” Kalulu said.

Once elected the chairperson of the Police SACCO, one is expected to serve a two-year term, which is only renewable once.

After completing his training, Kalulu was posted to Kampala Metropolitan Police, previously known as Kampala Extra region. Kalulu replaced retired former police publicist, Simeo Nsubuga.

Later, Kalulu was appointed the officer in charge of Kampala Central Police station before he was transferred to Sironko as the District Police Commander.

He was later appointed a human resource officer at police headquarters and in August last year, he was appointed a senior protocol officer in the Police Force’s department of Protocol, honours and ceremonies, a position he holds to date.

Kalulu hold a Bachelors degree in Education from Makerere University, a Post graduate diploma in Human resource management from Uganda Management Institute (UMI), and a masters in management studies specialising in management again from UMI.

Kalulu is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in law at Makerere University.
