Ruyonga thrills fans at the Victory Music Concert

ON Friday evening, all roads led to Legends Bar and Restaurant grounds for the long awaited Victory Music Concert by Edwin Ruyonga.

Gates were flung open at 6:00pm and within a few hours, it was full house. A few minutes to 9:00pm, the night’s emcee, Ronnie Habaasa, sauntered onto the stage.

He was followed by the first performer of the night, Benezeri, who wowed the revellers with his sleek punch lines. Levixone, S4J (a bloke with a ground shaking voice) and Richy performed thereafter.

When Richy bundled off the stage, lights were switched off momentarily, paving way for the man of the night. After fleeting minutes, the lights were switched back on and Ruyonga came on stage.

He was clad in black stunners, a khaki jacket and white tour-pants. Revellers chanted in inexplicable excitement.

The gospel rapper took us down memory lane when he was still called Krukid. He evoked emotions with his Invisible Children song. A song so touching that it left some revellers in tears.

Maurice Kirya and Enygma then joined him on stage to perform the I Don’t Wanna Fight remix. He also did Blood, Fire and Smoke with Big Trill before trekking on the preachy road and sing God Moves.

I am sure the crowd confessed their sins, silently and privately. Moroots from Qwela Band joined Ruyonga to perform one of the crowd’s favourites Freedom.

Then the sound was lowered as Ruyonga confessed to the mammoth crowd how he is now saved, how he came squeaky clean. He broke down and cried in front of a now emotion-embraced crowd. Coopy Bly performed thereafter.

Ruyonga then walked back to the stage and did Battle Cry, One, Ija Nkutware, Pesa and the crowd’s favourite Tutuuse with Don Mc which brought the concert to a halt.
