Close to 100 hawkers operating outside Mpanga market in Fort Portal have been given a two-week ultimatum to operate inside the market or leave for other areas.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Paul Omoko, the Fort Portal Municipality town clerk noted that Mpanga market has several unoccupied stalls and pitches which hawkers operating outside can occupy.
He said that vendors in the market have always complained of not being able to sell because of the illegal hawkers surrounding the market.
The affected vendors include those operating along the Mpanga river foot bridge and those surrounding the market.
Omoko noted that if the directive is not honored, the hawkers will be moved by force.
This is not the first time the vendors are forced off the streets.
