RIHAM Warriors and KCCA Leopards have enhanced the reputation of Ugandan basketball at the FIBA Africa Zone V Club Championship in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Today, however, they face their toughest tests with daunting challenges in the semi-finals of the tournament that brings together the best clubs from East and Central Africa.

The Warriors take on 2011 Zone V winners and 2012 runners up Urunani, who will benefit from the morale-boosting perk of home support.

KCCA Leopards are up against a familiar and frightening foe in Kenya’s Eagle Wings, the two-time reigning Zone V champions.

Eagle Wings have meted out plenty of pain to Ugandan opposition in recent years and the physical Kenyans will be favourites to extend their winning streak today.

KCCA will look to Flavia Oketcho and Martha Soigi, who nailed 17 and 11 points respectively in the Leopards’ 64-50 win over Tanzania’s Berco Stars on Wednesday.

The Warriors will look to Henry Malinga, who made 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Ronnie Kasewu, who gunned 18 in Wednesday’s 64-50 victory over Tanzania’s Vijana.

Back home, D’Mark Power battle City Oil in the Airtel National Basketball League (ANBL) today at Lugogo.

Power lost their last game, their only defeat this season, by 26 points so it will be interesting to see if Bernes Ankunda’s team can bounce back.

City Oil themselves are just one week removed from their 20-point humiliation at the hands of the UCU Canons so they also have a point to prove.

Women’s action is also on at Lugogo.
