One dead in Mbarara market fire

One person died on spot while property worth millions of shillings was destroyed after fire gutted stores of Rwebikona Kitunzi market in Mbarara Municipality Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Julius Nyesiga, 28, of Kikagati in Isingiro district.

The fire is suspected to have originated from a mill neighboring the stores that was also burnt to ashes.

Police Western Region officer in charge of fires, Savior Munyira, said over 80 traders are counting loses as nothing was saved.
