Uganda held on to finish second as the East and Central Africa Regional Challenge Trophy in Malawi ended on Wednesday.

Action at Lilongwe Golf Club ended with defending champion Zambia winning the biennial championship by 15 strokes ahead of second placed Uganda. It is the second consecutive time that Zambia was winning the champion since they last hosted the event in 2013.

The champions were led by Kaela Mulenga who returned the best score (233 gross) of the tournament, with Tina Nawa's 251, Lornah Mwenda's 260 and Devanshi Naik's 266, completing the win.

The Ugandans who displaced Kenya from second place on the second day, once again put their heads down returning a combined gross of 251 to beat Kenya (266) to second place by 27 strokes.

Uganda's best player at the tournament and captain Flavia Namakula was again the star for the team on the last day, returning the best score of the day (79 gross) to inspire her side to second place. Eva Magala and Irene Nakalembe carded 83 and 89 respectively.

Her total score of 237 over 54 holes had her also finishing second overall behind Zambia's Kaela Mulenga (233 gross).

The competition is aimed at giving regional golfer's confidence and experience in international competitions, and the hosts a feel of hosting international events, ahead of the main All Africa Challenge Trophy competitions.
