ANAKA Town Council in Nwoya district on Thursday passed a budget estimate for the 2015/16 financial year worth over sh398m.

The speaker of Anaka Town Council Oloya W.S. Geoffrey told Radio Rupiny that the budget will see the administration taking the lion share (196,534,331) of  the budget followed by Physical Planning (94,444,975), Health (23,812,272), Statuary bodies/Council (21,151,000), Education (8,615,267) and Production, Marketing and Natural Resources taking a meager sh1,000.

Oloya however noted that the budget is slightly lower than that of 2014/15 which stood at sh449,926,725. He attributed this to of poor local revenue collection mechanism which made them realize sh33m.

Oloya added that others factors responsible for the decrease in their budget include few local revenue sources, delays of grants from central government, poor attitudes of the local community in paying taxes, high inflation rates, lack of council revenue receipts and misuse of the local revenue.

The speaker noted that the sources of their budget estimate will arise from the local revenue collection, grants from central government that comprise of conditional, unconditional and equalization grants as  well as donor funds.

Oloya however called for concerted efforts from both the political leaders and technical staff to mobilize and sensitize the local community on the importance of paying taxes.
