Former archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Emmanuel Wamala has urged Catholics to pray for government civil servants so that they become transparent in the fight against corruption.

He was leading the opening Mass of the nine-day Novena Seminar at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Namugongo ahead of the June 3 Uganda Martyrs Day.

Wamala said the Mass was dedicated to all people in the judiciary, all civil servants, bankers and accountants who need prayers from all believers so that they execute their duties with transparency.

He also called on civil servants to emulate the history of the Uganda Martyrs whom he said had different responsibilities in the Buganda Kingdom yet they could always account for whatever they were entrusted with.

Groups of pilgrims continue to make their way from various parts of Uganda and afar to Namugongo, where the main celebrations will take place next week on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the road leading to the Namugongo shrine is under renovation as June 3 draws nearer.
