THE President of artists in Uganda, Andrew Benon Kibuuka popularly known as Dube has come to the rescue of singer Walukagga’s “Ekyatusomosa Lweera” concert that was hanging in th balance due to an unpaid debt.

Kibuuka told New Vision that he has reached an agreement with Joseph Kabanda, an event’s organizer who is demanding over sh10m from Walukagga, to allow the show go on and be paid before the end of June this year.

In an interview, Kabanda said “being an event’s organizer makes me part of the artists, I had to respect our president and allow the show go on.”  The concert is slated to take place on Friday at Freedom City.

He said Kibuuka has taken the responsibility of paying the debt and is going to pay part of the money from the show’s proceeds.

The issue arose after Kabanda threatened to stop the album launch by filing an application seeking temporary injunction on the launch until Walukagga clears his debt.

Two years ago, Kabanda dragged Walukagga to court after he failed to honor the written agreement that he signed when he borrowed the money from him. He was supposed to pay back one month after Walukagga’s shows in Masaka.

Kabanda alleges that in 2012, during his shows at Masaka, Walukagga borrowed over sh10m to help him organize the shows which he failed to pay back.

Court in Mengo ruled that though Walukagga alleged that he had cleared the debt, he failed to prove to the court that he had made the payment since there was no evidence.
