The Industrial Court has been boosted with two brand new vehicles valued at sh300m. The two Toyota Land Cruisers were handed over to Justice Asaph Ntengye Ruhinda and his deputy Justice Lydia Tumusiime.

Presiding over the ceremony, at the Gender, Labour and Social Development ministry head office in Kampala, the permanent secretary, Pius Bigirimana, explained the rationale behind the boost.

He said they got the vehicles for the judges because the ones they had, had outlived their usable life-time.

"This is why we have been having a backlog of cases in the Industrial court. Now with the vehicles; I believe the cases are to be listened to very urgently. I don't expect them to have any other issue with transport, but to move to all districts and settle the cases there," he explained.

Tumusiime welcomed the boost, vowing to ensure that work at the court would be handled smoothly to expeditiously dispose off cases.

"There are over 200 cases that need to be disposed off in a short time and transport had been one of the issues impeding the process. But with these new cars, we are to move to all courts in all the districts such that the backlog is reduced," she stated.

Ntengye echoed Tumusiime's commitment, noting that the pressing issue of transport had been sorted.
