FUFA launches U-17 league

FUFA has warned teams against fielding mercenaries in the inaugural FUFA Junior league that started on Saturday.

FUFA has warned teams against fielding mercenaries in the inaugural FUFA Junior league that started on Saturday.
The junior football league is designed to cater for players under the age of 17.
"I want to caution those teams that may be tempted to use mercenaries to distablise the success of this tournament that we are ready to weed them out and the culprits will face harsh punishment," FUFA spokesperson, Ahamed Hussein declared during the launch of the league at Phillip Omondi Stadium,Lugogo.
In the opening game, KCC beat St Mary Heritage of Nabweru 1-0. Dan Mugwanya scored the only goal of the day in the 27th minute.
FUFA Competitions manager Ali Mwebe called upon sponsors to join them so as promote the tournament .
'We expect a good start to this league. All stakeholders in football need to welcome and support the project' said Mwebe.
The 13 teams that will be taking part in the league were divided into two groups(Nile and Murchison).Nile has six teams while Murchison has seven teams. These include; Edgars Youth , Jeff , KCC , Life External , ST Marys Heritage, Synergy , Maroons, SC Villa Jogoo, Kayda , Super Cubs, Rweshama, Standard High-Zana, Simba.
Each of the 13 teams received 10 balls.
Next season, all the teams in the Azam Uganda Premier league will be mandated to register an U-17 side to play in the FUFA Juniors league as one of the requirements for club licensing.
