School boy dies during a soccer match

Shock and distrust gripped residents of Nango village in Malongo sub-county of Mayuge district on Wednesday afternoon after a school boy collapsed and died during a soccer match.

Shock and distrust gripped residents of Nango village in Malongo sub-county of Mayuge district on Wednesday afternoon after a school boy collapsed and died during a soccer match.

 
Jarius Makenzie, 12, a primary four pupil of Nango Primary School was playing the defender role during a friendly match between his school and the visiting Yesu Akwagala Primary School.
 
An eyewitness narrated that Makenzie suddenly fell  and lay motionless on the pitch as people looked on in astonishment.
“Many of us had thought that he was just unconscious but when word spread that he was dead some people started weeping. Others just looked on in amazement,” the witness said.
 
Caroline Akol, the Mayuge district police commander told New Vision that the deceased had been taken to Iganga hospital for a post-mortem.
 
“Well the information we have so far is that the boy collapsed during a football match and died. We shall definitely have our investigations as police and let the public know our finding,” Akol assured.
 
Stephen Masiko, the father of the deceased said that his son did not have any signs of sickness and left home normal that morning
