Sekagya edges closer to MLS switch

IBRAHIM Sekagya has proved himself at New York Red Bulls.

The Ugandan defender’s one-week trial – as expected – has registered tremendous success and all that is left are negotiations over personal terms before completing a move to New York.

“I think that we are in talks right now,” Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke told the media in New York. 

“We had them for over a week, I think it was ten days, and we saw both of them in the reserve game and it comes down to decision time. We will be making decisions shortly,” Petke said of both Sekagya and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

However, there are also reports that Red Bull Salzburg are considering to recall Sekagya from New York to resolve the injury crisis at the club.

If Sekagya completes his move from Red Bulls Salzburg – a club he joined in 2007 – he will become the third Ugandan to play in the Major League Soccer after Sulaiman Tenywa and Robert Sejjemba.
