NRM registration in Buganda starts

NRM secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba, has issued new guidelines for independents and other opposition members wishing to register as party members during the on-going mass-recruitment exercise.

Speaking to journalists Monday at the NRM secretariat at Plot 10 Kyadondo Road in Nakasero, Lumumba also announced that the party will on Friday start the registration of members in Kampala and central region.

“Our mass membership drive has been underway in Northern Uganda and today we launch the second stage of our mass membership drive—in Kampala and central region. Registration will begin this Friday, May 15,” she said.

Lumumba stated that starting tomorrow; NRM will be hosting six zonal meetings in Central region, where among other things—training of village and sub-county registrars and distribution of registration materials—will be done.

“NRM membership and registration process is free and open to all Ugandan citizens aged 18 and over,” she said.

Tomorrow, Lumumba will travel to Masaka for the first zonal conference that is expected to be attended by all NRM MPs from that region and the 2011 general election flag bearers for parliamentary elections.

The LCV chairpersons, district NRM executive committee members, LCIII chairpersons, NRM sub-county chairpersons, district administrative secretaries and district registrars are also expected to attend.

The NRM’s membership drive was launched on April 28 in Northern Uganda by President Yoweri Museveni, the party chairman.

According to Rogers Mulidwa, the head of media and public relations at the NRM secretariat, the target to complete the mass registration process, including the display of the new yellow book by July 12.
