The US Ambassador Scott DeLisi has pledged to support the campaign for the Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (EMTCT) that is being championed by the First Lady Janet Museveni.

Ambassador DeLisi made this pledge during a meeting they held with the First Lady and Karamoja Affairs Minister at her office in the Office of the Prime Minister.

This was in response to Janet Museveni's request to the Ambassador to support the Organization of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS' (OAFLA) work, most especially the EMTCT campaign.
Ambassador DeLisi noted that the EMTCT campaign is a shared vision and he will partner with OAFLA to champion it.

He further noted that it is not enough to just talk about elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS,  but results were needed and therefore emphasized the need to decide what can be done better together.

He said many other partners should be mobilized and all voices should be heard, however the Uganda voices should be heard more than any other voice on this issue. He added that the US Government is ready to support these voices.

The EMTCT policy has been rolled to all Districts and regional campaign launches are ongoing. Janet Museveni invited the Ambassador to be part of the launch for Karamoja sub region which is scheduled in September.
The UNAIDS Country Representative Musa Bungudu who also attended this meeting, pledged their support to the EMTCT campaign that the First Lady is championing.

Bungudu thanked government for increasing the health budget. He also informed the Ambassador about the need to fund the youth activities as well.
