Parliament adopts list for new committee chairpersons

Parliament has approved names for new committee chairpersons and members designated by party chief whips.

Parliament has approved names for new committee chairpersons and members designated by party chief whips.

According to the list, the opposition retained Bugweri County MP Abdul Katuntu (FDC) and Busiro North MP Medard Ssegona (DP) on the legal and parliamentary affairs committee.

Betty Nambooze and Roland Mugume were also retained on the public service and local governments committee.

The NRM retained committee chairpersons Michael Werikhe (natural resources), Stephen Tashobya (legal and parliamentary affairs) and Timothy Lwanga (budget). It dropped Barnabas Tinkasimire as chairman of the presidential affairs committee and replaced him with Col. Fred Mwesigye.

Other committee chairpersons who were dropped include defence and internal affairs’ Milton Muwuma, who was replaced with Bennie Namugwanya. Health’s Samuel Lyomoki was replaced with Kenneth Omona and public service and local government’s Florence Kintu was replaced with Grace Kwiyucwiny.

The Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, designated the rebel MPs to different committees. These are Tinkasimire (information and communication technology), Wilfred Niwagaba (legal and parliamentary affairs) and Theodore Ssekikubo (defence and internal affairs). Mohammed Nsereko is yet to be designated a committee.
