THE Catholic Centenary Memorial Choir, popularly known as Cacemcho, has been invited to represent Uganda and Africa at the Himbisa Mukama international choral music festival, which will take place at Dreifaltigkeit Catholic Church, Regensburg, Germany, from May 7 to May 27 (2015).

According to the choir’s Chairperson, Margaret Nabbosa, the festival was organised by organist Joseph Wasswa, a former member of the choir, currently based in Germany.

Further to being a cultural exchange initiative between Cacemcho and the Dreifaltigkeit choirs, the concert is also intended to raise funds for the construction of school of language/music school and studio in Masaka.

Cacemcho was requested to send 45 members, who need about sh3m (three million) each, for the return air-ticket.

“We are the only African choir that was invited from Africa. We shall be given free accommodation and food. But we have to pay for our air-tickets. Each ticket costs about sh3m. We also have to buy traditional musical instruments like xylophones, tube-fiddles and Ssenkubuge drums.

We also need traditional attires like Gomesi, Bitengi, Sombrero and African sandals. The total cost of these items is about sh125m. We are expected to be in Germany on May 7. We ask all Ugandans of good will to assist us financially. This is another opportunity for us to market our country” Nabbosa said.

She made this appeal during the choir’s fundraising concert at Christ the King Church, Kampala, on Saturday. Over sh4m (four million) was raised in cash and pledges.

Cacemcho also animated masses at Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Kansanga, where theyreceived sh3m (3million), of which sh1m (one million) was donated by Dr. Francis Kitaka, a prominent Ugandan entrepreneur.

The Catholic Centenary Choir was established in 1979 as a national memorial choir for the centenary of the Catholic faith in Uganda. The choir has cream choristers, drawn from prominent Catholic Church choirs, across the country.
