THE Kenya Ladies Golf Open that tees off at Karen Country Club in Nairobi on Saturday will have a strong numerical presence of Ugandans but without the usual title contenders.

Former Uganda Open champions Flavia Namakula and Jasper Kamukama will not compete in the 54 holes tournament.

Kamukama who is also Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president did not make the trip due to work engagements in Kampala while Namakula is on holiday out of the country.

“I am quite busy and I hadn’t planned for it. It was a last minute arrangement,” Kamukama told New Vision Sport.

Namakula who won the 2010 Kenya Open would have been a favourite in this tournament.

“I could not make it because I am not around. May be next time I will be there. There will be other Ugandans,” Namakula remarked.

Harriet Kitaka, Gloria Mbaguta, Irene Nakalembe, Aggie Konde and Anne Abejja are in Nairobi for the two-day competition.

The event will see competitors play 36 holes on Saturday and wind up with 18 holes on Sunday.
