KAMPALA - Voters in Nakawa Division have asked government to expedite the process of separating the constituency into two so that services reach the common person.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizers expressed their views while meeting the Kampala region NRM party boss Capt. Francis Babu at the community centre hall in Nakawa town.

They said the constituency is big and should be split into two to allow the people better representation.

They also said the same request was made to the President and asked that it should be urgently addressed.

On his part, Babu appealed to the NRM aspirants to be law-abiding and not to start campaigns for various seats before they are cleared by the Electoral Commission.

“We as the ruling and biggest party should set the pace. Let’s not breach the law by starting to campaign before the mandated time” he said.

Then came his warning: “If they report you to the disciplinary committee of NRM that you have started campaigns, I will be the first person to ask that your intended candidature be cancelled.”

He also called upon the NRM leaders and members to bury their hatchet and be united to form a formidable force that will win more seats both at Parliament and local council levels and to also register a better percentage win for President Yoweri Museveni, the party president.

Babu said members should stop being myopic by fighting for mobilization funds and instead should pick better leaders that will make the NRM a party for generations to come.

Nicholas Arinaitwe, the Nakawa NRM party chairman said the people of Nakawa are longing to visit State House to share pertinent issues with President Museveni.

He said the youth and women groups are organized and ready to benefit and use the funds that government has earmarked for development.

“We score good percentage wins for NRM; President Museveni and other leaders, let the NRM party reciprocate by giving us all support that will help our people to fight poverty” he stated.

The party members were asked not to be selfish by planning to occupy most party and general leadership positions but share with talented leaders which would create more harmony and unity in the party.

Fred Ruhindi the Nakawa County MP, who is also the attorney general, said as MP he lobbed Parliament to pass a World Bank loan of sh460b for Kampala Capital City Authority (KKCA) infrastructure which Nakawa would benefit from.

He pledged for forgiveness where he had fallen short in service delivery but said a lot had been achieved.
