A 23-year-old woman hacked her husband to death on Tuesday following a disagreement.

Unity Atuhere a resident of Kalere village in Kibalinga Sub County, reportedly asked her husband Christopher Tukaherwa 26, to go to the garden early enough so that they would dig before it rained.

"On reaching the garden, Atuhere hit Tukaherwa with a hoe on the head, and then picked a panga with which she chopped his body into pieces," Scovia Nyiramahoro, the mother of the deceased said.

Atuhere reportedly ran to Lusalira police post where she handed herself in.

The police from Mubende visited the scene, and removed the body of the deceased. The Mubende police officer in charge of operations Nelson Kasangaki and other police officers took the body to Mubende hospital mortuary where a postmortem was carried out. The body was later released to the relatives for burial.

The suspect has meanwhile been transferred to Mubende police station where she is being held as investigations go on.

Kasangaki said the suspect admitted having committed the crime saying her husband had married another woman.

According to some residents, Atuhere separated from her husband early last month, when he took on another wife. They however said she had recently returned.

John Mumbere the officer in charge of the family and child protection unit at Mubende police station said this is not the first murder case to result from domestic violence in Mubende in recent times.

In the past, one year, at least three murder cases have been registered while others have suffered serious physical injuries.
