Masaka police officer fatally hit by stone

MASAKA - A Police Criminal Investigations Department officer attached to Masaka Cental Police Station has been stoned to death.

Southern Region Police spokesman Noah Sserunjongi identified the officer as Muhamed Meera who reportedly died shortly after a stone hit his head .

The Wednesday night incident occurred at Kasana in Nyendo suburb near Masaka town where the officer was on patrol.

Sserunjongi said the Police had arrested a student of Royal Secondary School in connection with a case. Police has mounted a hunt for other suspects.

Sources told New Vision that the stone which hit Meera was thrown from one of the corridors in Kasana.

Meera, who hails from Butaleja, died near Ambiance Discotheque as his colleagues rushed him to Masaka Hospital.

Nyendo suburb, one of the slums in Masaka, is notorious for drug trafficking, robbery, prostitution and burglary.

The district security committee chaired by the RDC, Chris Owor, met to discuss the matter.
