UPDF’s Patrick Cheroto on Saturday emerged winner of the Busoga Kingdom Mama Kit Charity half marathon.
The first edition of the half marathon was flagged off by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga at Ssaza ground with the theme “Save the mothers, Restore Family Happiness”.
The event was meant to raise funds for buying mama kits to help expectant mothers in Busoga region. It was organized by Busoga Kingdom.
The runners competed in the 21km, 15km and 5km races and though participants were over 100, a number that was little, Kadaga decried the low turn up for the event and urged Basoga to come in large numbers when the second edition will be organized in 2016.
Uganda’s Olympic gold medalist, Stephen Kiprotich, honoured the marathon when he flagged off the 5km race that Kadaga participated in as a runner and finished.
Others who competed in the 5km race was the State Minister for Gender Rukia Isanga Nakadama, Members of Parliament who included Capt. Susan Lakot (UPDF), Margaret Makoha (Woman MP Namayingo), Peter Mugema Panadol (Iganga Municipality), Milton Muwuma (Kigulu South), Olivia Kwagala (Woman MP Iganga), Agnes Nabirye (Woman MP Jinja), Veronica Kadoko (Buyembe woman MP) and Busoga Kingdom’s acting Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala.
