The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura has tasked higher institutions of learning to establish fully-fledged security systems to counter the sophisticated modern crime.

Kayihura made the call on Sunday at a meeting of National Crime Preventers Forum (NCPF), held at Makerere University main hall in Kampala.

The Police chief, who gave a keynote address, drew a link between a stable society and the benefits of national prosperity.

"We should not allow anyone to undermine our efforts to transform our country. Law and order is for facilitating production. Don’t say security is for Police. Everybody is a stake holder in security. The core is the people," Kayihura stated.

The meeting was attended by over 300 students affiliated to NCPF from higher institutions of learning across the country.
Kayihura noted that maintenance of security is best placed in the form of collective, rather than the individual.

The commander of Field Force Unit Sam Omalla stated that the Police have managed to tame the perpetrators of the infamous walk-to-work protests that had turned violent.

The director Kampala Metropolitan Police Haruna Isabirye lauded NCPF, noting that the role of crime preventers is  key in the new Police community policing outlook.
