CRANES left back Joseph Ochaya clinched the first league title of his budding career on Sunday as his side Asante Kotoko secured a 1-0 victory over Amidaus Professionals at Tema Park to retain the Glo Premier League trophy they won last season.

Substitute Prince Baffoe scored the only goal of the match in the 67th minute, keeping the clubs’ hopes of claiming a domestic double alive.

Kotoko will face Medeama SC in the FA Cup finals on July 14 the Accra Sports Stadium.

“I don’t know the exact words to use right now but it was good to win. Our hard work at the end was rewarded by the Lord’s mercy and I beg Him for more and more,” an ecstatic Ochaya said shortly after a high pressure game.

Kotoko finished on 56points, three clear of closest challengers Berekum Chelsea who lost 2-1 to Heart of Lions on the dramatic final day of the Glo Premier League. Sunday’s triumph sealed Kotoko’s 22nd league title.

After a going unbeaten in the first round, Kotoko surrendered top spot following a string of losses to Berekum and King Faisal in 2-0 away and 2-1 home defeats respectively.

Ochaya who made 15 appearances for Kototo, starting 12 and coming off the bench on three occasions, managed to score thrice during the campaign. Ochaya missed a number of games due to an ankle injury and national duty during the 2012 CECAFA Championships.
