Ethiopian Airlines will in June start direct flights from Entebbe to Japan, Dublin in Ireland and Los-Angeles.


Ethiopian Airlines is set to start direct flights from Entebbe to Japan in April, the airline Area Manager Uganda Abebe Angessa disclosed yesterday.

He said as part of the airlines efforts to ease transport across the globe and a boost cross border trade, Ethiopian airline will also start direct flights to Dublin in Ireland, Los-Angeles USA, Manila Philippines, Cape town in Johannesburg in June 2015.  

Angessa, revealed that more new direct routes across the globe will be introduced to enable Ugandans business community and tourists travel with ease.  He said other new routes set for June this year is the Gabrobne, Swaziland destination.

The Japan route will be the carrier’s 11th route destination to Asia on 21 April, 2015.

 “We shall be connecting our passengers across the five continents of Africa, Asia and Europe, North and south America under direct flight through Addis Ababa hub,” said Abebe.  

He made the remarks at a ceremony where he handed over a ticket to Aggrey Jimmy Mwesigwa the team leader East Africa Sports Tourism Initiative (EASTI) to Johannesburg for tourism promotion. Mwesigwa said the ticket would ago along way in helping attract tourists for the forthcoming Tourism independence challenge due in October this year in Jinja.

Angesa said that due to the growing business schedule between Uganda and Dubai, the carrier added 60kgs baggage allowance for passengers flying to Dubai.

Abebe said as the Airline marks 50 year of operation in November 5, 2015, the company will join a campaign to boost Uganda’s tourism industry.

“As we celebrate 50th years of service this November, we shall explore all avenues to promote tourism in Uganda,” he said.

He noted that Uganda is gifted by nature with a number of tourist attractions to earn foreign exchange.
