Express v Ports United

It is now official, Wasswa Bbosa will be in charge of Express today when they take on Djibouti side Ports United.

Sam Ssimbwa who was supposed to be in charge of the team has not yet arrived in Darfur and is reported to be close to a deal to handle Rwandan club Police FC.

His understudy Bbosa is consequently determined to utilise the opportunity and inspire Express to a winning start in the competition.

“I am pretty sure that we can get the necessary points. We have prepared well enough not to dwell on the absence of Ssimbwa. My boys are ready and I am also ready,” said Bbosa.

The Red Eagles travelled with former Kira Young stopper Frank Olinga, who will however be kept in the stands for this opening game.

Express will rely on their talismanic captain Willy Kavuma.

On Tuesday, Uganda’s other CECAFA Club representatives URA claimed their first victory in the tournament after stunning home side Al-Hilal with a 1-0 victory.

James Kasibante struck a 90th-minute winner.

The tax collectors achieved this without their head coach Paul Nkata.

Nkata however left for Darfur on Wednesday aboard Kenya Airways and is expected to guide the team in today’s training sessions.

Before he departed, Nkata hailed his players for their remarkable start to the competition.

“I was following the game on TV and I felt happy seeing the boys win. We were a little worried with Al Hilal since they were at home and are indeed a strong side,” Nkata confessed.

The CECAFA club tournament which is partly sponsored by the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame is expected to end on July 2.

The tournament has been marred by security concerns.
