The national amateur golf teams now have their eyes set on winning the Zone 6 Africa Golf Championship after they were all passed fit following a medical at AAR Acacia Avenue in Kampala.

According to Dr. Richard Bamuhimbisa, one of the doctors who conducted the medical checks, none of the ten golfers was found to have any chronic illness and they were all declared fit.

“Generally they are all fit, when I checked their Body Mass Index ratio I see they are all normal, the blood pressure and blood sugar is also normal save for a few who have minor problems with their joints but these are minor and cannot stop them from performing,” Bamuhimbisa said.

“These tests are important because some people get diabetes when they are still young depending on their lifestyle, I would recommend they do them at least every six months but being sportsmen they should also regularly check on their knees and joints,”

Nervous systems checked Team members had their central nervous systems examined and also went through tests for hypertension, diabetes, bacterial infections, blood pressure and blood grouping among others.

The Ugandan team under coach Amos Kamya comprises of Adolf Muhumuza (captain), Lawrence Muhenda, Ronald Bukenya, Gideon Kagyenzi, Henry Lujja, Ronald Otile, Robert Oluba and Martin Ochaya who all went through the checks including Ronald Rugumayo and Happy Robert the reserves.

The juniors’ team comprising of Ronald Baguma, Richard Baguma, Deco Mutebi and Hassan Kiyemba that is also preparing for the All Africa Junior Championship in Zambia also underwent the same tests.

Nine visiting countries

The Zone 6 will have golfers from, South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe competing over four days at Kitante, April 14-18.
