The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mike Chibita, has visited the crime scene where his assistant Joan Kagezi was assassinated from. Also at the scene were experts from the forensics department who reconstructed the scene of the murder.

She was the lead prosecutor in a terrorism case involving al-Shabab militants who killed 79 people at Kyadondo rugby club and the Ethiopian village in July 2010.

Kagezi was killed a few minutes to 8.00pm local time by armed men riding on a motorcycle in Kiwatule on the outskirts of the city Kampala, as she returned home from work.

“The case will continue despite this happening.  It was an open war on the judiciary, one which would be fought for the betterment of society,” Chibita said.

Also at the scene were experts from the forensics department who reconstructed the scene of the murder.

Besides a somber mood at her home in Najera a Kampala suburb, there is tight security.

A police officer who talked to our reporter said they were allowing in only family members and government officials.

According to a police officer who preferred anonymity, police were shielding the traumatized orphans from journalists. A few reporters who had accessed the home were asked to get out.

Internal affairs minister Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, the Director of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Directorate, Grace Akullo, and some judiciary officials were at Kagezi’s home.
