A Sh7b supplementary approval request by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for the purchase of Usafi market in Kampala has raised eyebrows among members of the parliamentary budget committee.

Meeting a team of KCCA officials led by KCCA Deputy Executive Director, Judith Tumusiime at Parliament, the MPs raised a barrage of questions, concerns and requests to them including asking them to provide a certified copy of the land title.

The MPs wanted to know why the money for the market was not included in the 2014/2015 budget and also whether this amounted to an emergency.

This was after Tumusiime briefed the committee on the planned purchase of 6.18 acres of Usafi Market and a taxi park by KCCA at a cost of Sh39.48b.
