National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball team is out to defend the title at the East Africa Netball Club Championship as they take on MOICT in the final at the Gymkhana Club in Zanzibar on Saturday.

The 13 times champions beat Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) Mbweni 35-15 in the semi final game on Friday to extend their stay ahead of the title quest.

NIC will start the challenge with their Goal Shooter Stella Oyella who missed the semis due to an illness but according to team manager Fatia Kitaka the scorer has recovered and ready for the competition.

Oyella had to miss the semi final game after she was diagnosed with a drop in blood pressure but her return to the team has boosted Kitaka’s moral of winning the regional trophy for the 14 time this evening.

“Am even more convinced that I am retaining the title because everyone in the team is fine and ready for the challenge,” she said.

Ahead of Saturday's action against Kenya’s best MOICT, Oyella will be assisted by Hadija Nakabuye, Harriet Layet and Barbra Namukaya in the scoring positions while Lukia Meeme, Suzan Atino and Desire Obua will play in the mid field while Betty Namukasa and Alice Nanteza have been named on NIC’s defense.

Other Ugandan side, Prisons had their quest to the title was shattered after they lost to MOICT in the game that ended 38-34 at the event that was delayed due to the morning rains at the same venue and by press time the Wardresses were up against JKT Mbweni in the battle for third place.

Meanwhile in the men’s category, JKU will be up against Police in the final at the event that attracted only four teams all from Zanzibar.
