The outbreak of typhoid fever in the city and other parts of Kampala has not left anyone unchecked. Workers at the main city abattoir have taken serious steps in response to the outbreak.

City Abattoir Traders Development Association (CTDA) chairman, Abbey Mugumba told New Vision that they have given hygiene a priority.

“We have chased away all traders who can not meat the hygiene standards. Since we deal in meat are very vigilant with hygiene,” Mugumba said.

He said food vendors at the abattoir are required to wash their utensils with hot water and to keep them covered all the time.” We also clean the abattoir on an hourly basis to avoid loitering flies,” he added.
