A court in Kasese has sentenced a Congolese national to six-month imprisonment over illegal entry into Uganda.

Kasese Grade One Magistrate, George Mfitundinda, handed Malikani Bwambale a jail sentence on June 4, 2013 after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Bwambale hails from Kyabinyonge near Beni town in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Bwambale was also jointly charged with three Ugandans; Hussein Kombi Kasyakulhu, Pedson Saturday and Harriet Muhindo of Musyenene with two counts of being in possession of an illegal gun and keeping ammunitions without permission.

They however denied the charges.

Prosecution told court that told court that in March this year, Bwambale was arrested together with the three Ugandans at the Mpondwe boarder in Kasese over illegal use of a gun.

Prosecution asked court to hand Bwambale a deterrent sentence owing to an influx of Congolese nationals into Uganda posing a threat to Uganda’s security.

Bwambale will be deported after serving the sentence.

He is the fifth Congolese national to be convicted by the Kasese magistrates’ court for illegal entry since the start of the year.

In March 2013, three Congolese were sentenced to 12-month imprisonment by the Kasese Grade II magistrate court after pleading guilty to illegal entry in Uganda.
