Olympian Charles Ssekyaaya is confident of team Uganda's chances of performing better at the Islamic Solidarity Weightlifting Championships that start Wednesday in Istanbul Turkey.

One of Africa's upcoming lifter will be leading a team of four weightlifters to the 3rd edition of the event, after Uganda Olympic Committee offered them five tickets to travel for the biennial event under the Olympic solidarity programme.

"We are going for a competition and we know the challenges in such international events. We have been training hard for this. We know every one travelling for this event is focussed on winning a medal but we will battle for a good result," said a positive Ssekyaaya, who says that his performance in this event will count so much on his presence in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The 62kg category sportsman lifts a total 250kg and he is looking at improving it .

"I am targeting an improvement  of my personal best and the only way I can do this is by having good competition," he said.

UOC president William Blick handed over the tickets to them, advising them that what UOC can offer is to facilitate them to travel to such competitions but it was up to them to perform better.

"We have given you an opportunity to travel. You go and prove yourself that you are worth other trips," said Blick.

Other lifters who will be travelling with him are Jamil Lubega, Hakim Ssempereza and Jinja Monsters Irene Kasuubo. Henry Musubire is the team coach.
