Miya Farouk’s strike and an own goal from opposite goal keeper ensured victory for visitors Vipers FC against Kira Young FC in the Ugandan Premier League at Namboole stadium.

The hosts drew first blood 25 minutes into the game after Haguma Bright converted a penalty.

Kira, who lie in the bottom half of the table, could have doubled their lead but Patrick Kaddu struck wide.

But their visiting opponents, who are the current table leaders, pressed on for an equalizer. And it soon came, thanks to Farouk’s strike early in the second half.

The forward Kezron Kizito sneaked a pass to Farouk who duly collected it, danced past his minders, and slotted home.

Both sides threw their men forward for a winner, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

But with eight minutes to time, a winner finally emerged. An effort by Farouk proved too much for Kira’s goalkeeper Bugembe Ashadu to keep out.

The Tuesday win keeps Vipers firmly rooted at the top with games to spare.
