IT was sweet revenge for Duncan Mugabe as he triumphed over Rwandan Jean Claude Gasigwa to claim his second Kenya Open title in Nairobi yesterday.

Mugabe, who lost to Gasigwa in the semi-final of the Uganda Open in Kampala two months ago, recovered from a set to down to blow away the Rwandan veteran 5-7 6-2 6-1 as his compatriot David Oringa cheered on.

Mugabe beat Zambian Edgar Kazembe in the semi-final while Oringa who struggled with an injury was ejected by Gasigwa.

Mugabe, who remains the only Ugandan to have won the Kenya Open, also teamed up with Oringa to win the doubles title in the week-long tournament in which Uganda had a strong showing.

Mugabe and Oringa beat Kazembe and Gasigwa in the doubles.

“This victory restores our pride as Ugandans,” Oringa told New Vision Sport.
