Four coaches for cross country team

The Uganda Athletics Federation has stepped up preparations for the World cross country by naming a team of four national coaches to head to camp in Kapkoros, Bukwo and help guide the top runners and prepare them to win medals.

The Uganda Athletics Federation has  stepped up preparations for the World cross country by naming a team of  four national coaches to head to camp in Kapkoros, Bukwo  and help guide  the top runners and prepare them to win medals.


The World cross country championships is due March 28 in Guiyang, China. Uganda, as hosts for the next world edition in 2017 are looking forward in seeing that they put up a remarkable performance on the course.

The team that will be led by experienced UPDF coach Benjamin Longiross will have former Prisons coach Nalis Bigingo and Police coach Benjamin Njia and will be joined by UPDF women coach Grace Chesang.

The federation had earlier wanted to shift camp from Bukwo to Kabale to give athletes more time to concentrate but lack of a favourable place to camp in Western Uganda saw them abandon the plan.

"We have the best, we looked at experienced coaches who will bring Unity with in the team and also help counsel the runners," said the federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru on the development.

Junior women: Stella Chesang, Doreen Chemutai, Janat Chemusto, Rachael Chebet Zena and  Mercyline Chelangat

Senior Women: Juliet Chekwel, Adero Nyakisi, Nancy Cheptegei, Emily Chebet and Linnet Toroitich

Junior Men: Joshua Cheptegei, Fred Musobo, Mande Bushendich, Abel Chebet and Robert Chemonges

Senior Men: Philip Kipyeko, Moses Kipsiro, Geoffrey Kusuro, Moses Kibet, Mande Abdallah and Timothy Toroitich ​
