The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has called for more government intervention regarding sports funding.

Kadaga was officiating at the closure of the two-day, 3rd edition of the annual Joan Cox Memorial Volleyball tournament at Gayaza High School on Sunday.

"I know as government we have not supported sports much but we shall continue pressing for more funding," Kadaga said before crowning the winners.

She advised the students to pursue sports alongside their studies in order to be fit and maintain healthy lifestyles because "it is not expensive to run and play", and because they could land scholarships from the sports they compete in at university.
