Joseph Lubega’s fans will have to wait an extra fortnight to see their star in action.

Lubega’s WBC International light heavyweight title defense that was initially set for Saturday has been postponed to June 14.

Organisers said yesterday that they had to change due to a clash in programmes for World Boxing Council Supervisor Houicine Houiche.

“There was a clash in the dates between our event and another boxing fight in Norway that Houichi will be supervising. So we had to postpone it to June 14,” explained organiser Alice Namatovu.

Houiche will now arrive on June 12. Other fight officials Kiate Gunjanasirigul, a refere/judge and Plunemsamran, who doubles as a trainer and judge, will jet in the same day from Thailand.

“It’s a setback. We shall have to tone down training by two days then intensify again,” explained Lubega. Muay Thai boxer Semata expressed similar sentiments. Gunjanasirigul also serves as a World Boxing Council Muaythai Secretary General.
