AFTER three straight unsuccessful attempts, UCU Lady Canons are looking forward to making history by becoming the first ever ladies side to finish unbeaten in the regular season of the new-look Airtel National Basketball league.

The superiority of the Mukono based club was only checked by KCCA Leopards last season when the eventual champions managed to win one of the two encounters in the regular season.

If Mukono’s hot streak is anything to go by, when the two teams face off on July 19th the Lady Canons will fancy their chances.

Assistant skipper Maureen Amoding, who guided her side with 18points past a weak Nabisunsa side to a 101-20 victory, asserted after the victory that it will be hard to stop them this time around.

“I don’t see any team that will survive us, because the only side (KCCA) that was giving us headache has new recruits and they are yet to play as a team. We want to sweep everyone,” Amoding stated.

KCCA are second on the table, behind Canons who became the first ladies side to register 100+ points this season.

KCCA stalwart and last season’s MVP Flavia Oketcho was dismissive in her assessment.

“It is true they have a good squad this year but it has been like that for the past four years yet we end up beating them so I think nothing will change,” Oketcho explained.

In the other ladies game, A-1 Challenge defeated MUK Sparks 62-40.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Falcons defeated Vegetarian 57-28 while KIU Titans also overcame Nkumba marines in slow and low scoring affairs.
