Kadaga to attend IGAD meet in Khartoum

PARLIAMENT Speaker Rebecca Kadaga will attend the 6th Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)'s Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), due to take place in Khartoum Sudan this month.

 

The summit will be attended by Speakers of Parliaments subscribing to IGAD Inter-Parliamentary Union member states.

 

The IGAD was established in 1986, a multinational with member states including Uganda Kenya Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea with a focus on development and environmental control. IGAD's headquarters are Djibouti, following an agreement signed in January 1986 by the member states.

 

In a meeting with the Sudan National assembly deputy Speaker Eisa Bushri Mohamed Hamid, at Parliament on Tuesday, Kadaga stressed the need to discuss the challenges facing IGAD countries regarding peace, security and the fight against poverty.

 

"I will attend the IGAD's  IPU summit due to take place on 23 to 25 In Khartoum because the agenda of Khartoum Summit would open the door wide to the IGAD States to start new developments according to the world scene" confirmed Kadaga.

 

"The issues to be debated ranges from bilateral, political governance, peace and security will be given top priority among member states especially Sudan," added Kadaga.

 

The Secretary General of IGAD's IPU, A-Gadir Abdallah, said that “member states identified Khartoum Sudan a suitable place for the summit to seat, because the Sudanese people can participate fully and they feel part of the system."

 

A-Gadir added “Sudan is one of the countries that founded the idea of Parliamentary Union, praising Sudanese government's role to succeed the IGAD programs"

 

He explained "The Union is seeking to integrate IGAD countries, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan, economically and socially."

 

The chairperson of Energy, mining, and industrial parliament committee, said that the Speaker of Sudan's Parliament Dr. Fatih Izz al-Din has sent invitations to the heads of the IGAD countries to attend the Conference.
