“I am out, free, innocent, clean, no criminal record. I will tell you all as soon as I get home on Monday, God bless you all!”

This was the first statement of singer Iryn Namubiru immediately she was acquitted of drug-trafficking charges by a Japan court Friday evening.

She was arrested early this month upon her arrival in Japan at Narita International Airport where she had gone to perform for the Ugandan community.

She was contracted by one Kim Tumwesigye, a Ugandan businessman based in Japan.

In an exclusive interview with the New Vision, the entertainer said that she is still traumatized by the turn of events and that she will hold a press conference immediately she arrives in Uganda on Monday.

Online social networks like Facebook and Twitter are still flooded with messages from family, friends, fans, colleagues and well-wishers of the singer, welcoming her from prison.

“It was less than a month but it seemed more than a decade! It is some experience I will never forget in my life, I am still traumatized and yet to get over it,” said Namubiru.

The songbird, who enjoys a substantial fan base here in Uganda, said that she was not mistreated by the Japanese Police.

And she had a confession of her own to make.  She admitted that she missed internet and her phone so much because she was denied access to them.

The ‘Tebiba bingi’ singer thanked everyone who contributed and prayed for her to ensure she gains her freedom and added that she could not engage in any business that would tarnish her image because she has worked so hard to build it.

“I have read a number of stories and I have realized how people can be judgmental but to be honest, I cannot engage in any business that would tarnish my image because I have built it for many years and have worked extremely hard to be where I am.

“I thank God and everyone who has done whatever they can to ensure I get my freedom.”
