Ugandan budding heavyweight boxer Willy Kyakony has landed an offer of a place in the World Boxing Series (WBS) in Venezuela.

The KCCA pugilist becomes the first national boxer to join one of the two semi-professional brands of the world boxing body AIBA. Kyakony will be under the management of boxing mogul Rsran Lopez who runs the Caciqes de Venezuel boxing in the Latin American state.

WBS and AIBA Pro Boxing are new brands managed by the AIBA marketing arm.

Kyakony was among over 40 boxers whose bio-data and fight records and video clips were submitted to AIBA by Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF).

He beat super heavyweight Mike Ssekabembe and light flyweight Fazil Juma Kaggwa. While in Venezuela, Kyakony will compete in special league meant for top drawer boxers in the world. Besides earning a stipend, the Ugandan pugilist stands a chance of earning points that can guarantee him a place in the Olympic Games.

“This shows that Ugandan boxing has a lot of potential to offer,” UBF president Kenneth Gimugu remarked after learning of the development.
