THREE schools have been closed and head teachers arrested after they were found to be operating in the city without a license from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

The three were found operating schools in Makindye Urban Authority after KCCA warned them not to open at the beginning of this school year. The move by KCCA has affected close to 350 pupils who had reported for the new term.

The arrested head teachers belong to Bukedde Infant School, Pavic Junior School and Parents Care Primary School.

KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju revealed that the arrested head teachers Sarah Miremebe (Bukedde), Nuwa Nsubuga (Parents Care) and Rehema Kamulari (Pavic) will be produced in courts and will be charged for operating schools illegally.

KCCA says that the move is meant to improve the standards of education in city schools.

The schools were found with unqualified teachers, poor sanitation, poor infrastructure while others had electric poles hanging over the structures.

During the early morning operation conducted by the supervisor of pre-primary and primary schools at KCCA, Prosper Lwamasaka, the officials found that at Bukedde the head teacher was the bursar, while at Pavic the head teacher was also the proprietor.

KCCA reveals that there over 400 schools in the city operating illegally but according to KCCA all these will be closed and their owners will face the law.

KCCA recommends that all schools operating in the city should have a license issued by KCCA in order to open, and they should also have the basic minimum requirements.
