Africa better recognise DJ Aludah

May 20, 2013

Thank God I had not paid my tuition fees so I used the money to fly to Nairobi and join HomeBoyz Music Technology Academy where I enrolled in their Deejaying, Music Production and Sound Engineering courses in Jan 2010. That marked the birth of DJ Aludah.

Some say DJ Aludah is the best in Uganda. He does not disagree. He spoke to Hope Namanya

Where is the name Aludah from? Is it your real name?
I get this a lot from people and yeah, Aludah is my real name. It is my middle name, given to me by my Granddad. Funny enough, I do not use it on my official papers because when growing up, I did not really like it.

Can you give us a little back ground of yourself and the schools you attended?
I went through a number of schools. I was at the Salvation Army Nursery School, then I joined  Arya and later Walukuba West Primary in Jinja. I then sat for my P7 Finals at Rock View Primary School in Tororo.

I went through four secondary schools before joining Makerere University for a bachelors in Information Technology. However, after just two weeks, I discovered that that is not where my passion lay.

So what is your normal day like?
My day is usually simple and that is because I work on phone and email. But in most cases, I like to schedule my meetings between Monday and Wednesday because those are the days when I have some time.

During  those days, I also record my mixtapes and prepare for my regular weekend gigs. These include: That’s Beats Per Minute and Baseline, Basement on Channel O, Radio Aktive @ Iguana Bar and on Wednesdays’ at Club Venom and the Saturday “Crazzz” at Club Amnesia. Sunday is a “me day”. I spend time with my family.

How long have you been a DJ and when did you discover that deejaying was your actual calling?
To be honest, I do not remember when deejaying came to me. I used to mess around on my laptop but never got out in public. But I would say I started deejaying in 2010. Before 2010, I was just not a DJ and that is because I was “PCDJING” and to me, You cannot call yourself a DJ unless You have two turntables and a mixer in front of you. Otherwise you are just a clown.

You battle in DJ competitions a lot. How do you feel about being part of such a big thing?
I have been in several competitions and I have won all of them. The biggest one was the Pilsner Spin Master in 2010 where I beat all 256 DJs on set.

Do you consider yourself the best DJ in Uganda as many people refer to you ?
Well, you just said many refer to me as the best DJ in 256. I guess I cannot go against their word. And now we say, It is time for Africa to recognise me!

Last but not least. Are you married or single?
A: Am I married or single? Hmmmmm. Let’s Just say, I am happy.
