The 2013 fashion trend so far, from various runways, has been less glitz, ruffles, and no sequins.

The designers have tried to keep it pretty simple, featuring fabrics like silk, African kitenge, chiffon and cotton. Most designers have chosen to make dresses.

Brenda Nanyonjo’s February 14 collection featured about 14 dresses. The most unforgettable was the yellow shirt dress, the maxi animal print tunic, maxi floral print tunic, yellow plus size maxi dress and the bridal gowns.

Julie Ssempijja, a young designer, featured about 13 dresses in her March 2013 collection.

Among these was the sleeveless knee-length pattern pencil dress, black pattern shirt dress, African print tunic and 10 other bell dresses.

For Cindy Kemigisha, a designer popular for celebrating the sensuality of the woman, her April 2013 collection featured four dresses, one of which was a pencil dress.

She also had a black long-sleeve dress, one bell dress and one haute couture black dress.

Latif Madoi is known for the dresses he can create within 10 minutes. His February 2013 collection was made up of tight-fitting evening dresses, with thigh high slits.

Only a few, like the overflowing red evening gown and the blue butterfly short dress, missed these details.

Primary colours like red, white, black, blue, yellow and green, plus prints like animal, floral, African and tie &dye are the primary features in the dresses that have graced the 2013 runway.

New on the catwalk is the ready-to-wear jumpsuits and the monotony of the chic rock looks that were seen to have featured in three runways (Nanyonjo, Amadoi, and Ssempijja).

These outfits included the African print jacket and long shorts, tie & dye hammer pants, among others.
