Results for last year’s Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations are due to be released today in Kampala.

KAMPALA - Results for last year’s Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations are due to be released today in Kampala.

The scheduled release comes three weeks after that of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) mid-last month, which saw the results of over 1,000 candidates withheld.

Last year’s UCE examinations began on October 9 and ended on November 18, 2014.

Candidature for UCE increased last year, with the number of candidates shooting up to 309,899 from 288,738 in 2013.

There were 3,006 centres examination across the country. The marking of the exams was completed mid-December last year.

Unlike in 2013, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) – the national assessment body – did not experience any setbacks.

Results for last year’s UCE examinations are expected to be more accurate, compared to previous years, according to Jessica Alupo, the minister of education and sports.

In an interview on Monday, Alupo said the Government made an extra effort to avert malpractices in the exams.

To ensure this, UNEB deployed thousands of scouts, most of whom were security officers.

Alupo advised parents to prepare the logistics needed by their children joining A’ Level since the period between the release of the results and the date for reporting for Senior Five is usually short.

UNEB spokesperson Hamis Kaheru also confirmed the due release of the results, eagerly waited for by students, parents, teachers and school administrators across the country.

It is understood the official release will take place at the ministry of education offices in Kampala.
