Kagame jets in for local govts meet

Rwandan president, Paul Kagame, is in Kampala for the 7th Commonwealth local governments conference.

Rwandan president, Paul Kagame, is in Kampala for the 7th Commonwealth local governments conference (CLGC).


Kagame was received at Entebbe International airport by the foreign affairs minister, Sam Kutesa and minister for the presidency, Frank Tumwebaze.

He is to address over 800 local governments ministers and delegates.
 
The conference under the theme: “Developmental Local Government: Putting Local Government at the heart of development” is taking place at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

CLGC will hold elections for new board members on Friday when the conference ends as well as reviewing and approving the business plan, budget and audit accounts.

The meeting is a high level forum for the discussion of the status of decentralization around the world with a view to identifying good practice and international knowledge-sharing.

It’s also expected to influence policy and international thinking on the post-2015 global agenda, focusing on poverty reduction and ensure efficient provision of local services, position local government to be an active partner in the post-2015 debate among others issues.
