Kamba rapped over case against rebel MPs

A section of MPs have attacked Kibuku County MP Saleh Kamba for petitioning the constitutional court challenging Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s ruling over rebel MPs.

MPs Mariam Nalubega (Butambala Woman) Gerald Karuhanga (Youth Western), Lulume Bayigga (Buikwe South) and Gilbert Oulanyah (Kilak) said Kamba should drop the case.

 “It’s unfortunate that Kamba who is an MP did not use his conscience when he decided to be used in fighting individual wars and not concentrate on representing his people. He has opened a can of worms and we are going to fight him if he doesn’t withdraw the case,” they vowed.

They added that Kamba in taking Parliament to court had betrayed and undermined Parliament and the constitution which he vowed to respect and protect at all time.

“He swore an oath to respect the constitution but regrettably he is trying to undermine it. We are not having a personal vendetta against him but we are doing this in the spirit of nationalism, constitutionalism and the need to uphold the independence of Parliament,” Karuhanga explained.

They said Kamba had an opportunity of challenging the Speaker’s ruling on the floor of the House when the ruling was made but decided to be absent.  

According to Bayigga, Kamba did not have any moral authority to sue Parliament because he has missed over fifteen parliamentary sittings.

“He (Kamba) is provoking us to invoke article 83 of the constitution to kick him out of the House if he fails to withdraw the case,” Bayigga added.

Kamba however, dismissed claims by the MPs as loose talk devoid of vital issues to say before cameras. He said as a senior NRM member he was obliged to fight for his party.  

“Those are empty threats and idle talks. It’s not true I am fighting other people’s wars,” he clarified.

He threatened to file a case in court this week against the MPs for attempting to “obstruct justice” by discussing a matter before court.

Kamba together with an NRM supporter Maryam Agasha petitioned the Constitutional Court protesting the Speaker’s ruling over the expelled MPs’ stay in Parliament.  

The expelled MPs are Bernabas Tinkasimire, Theodore Ssekikubo, Wilfred Niwagaba and Muhammad Nsereko.
