FIVE traders heading to Ochero market aboard a Fuso truck perished in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday morning at Otuboi in Kaberamido district.

The accident which occurred at around 5:00am involved the truck, white in colour, registration number UAN 468L, which crashed into a trailer registration number UAM 376S that had broken down and parked on the road side near Otuboi police post.

Police spokesperson Kyoga East, Juma Hassan Nyene said that four people died on the spot and one died on the way to Soroti Hospital.

He identified the dead as Catherin Ayago 28, of Atirir, Samuel Sebaduka 28, of Soroti, Sam Odele of Kumi and Florence Apeduno of Gweri. The other person's identity was not yet established by press time.

"We suspect that the Fuso truck had no lights on because if it had then it would have not crashed into the parked car on the road side," Nyene said.

Six people were rushed to Joint Clinic in Soroti Town. Doctors said that three are in critical condition while the rest were serious but stable condition.

"We received six people but one is in critical condition and we are transferring him to Mulago because he sustained a neck injury," Dr. Joseph Epodoi said.

A lady only identified as Josephine who sustained a back injury in the accident told New Vision at her hospital bed that the body of the truck they were travelling in was separated from the rest of the vehicle on impact.
