Members of Parliament have expressed anger over reports that Nakawa Court has been closed for failure to clear water bills.

On Monday afternoon, the Judiciary officials announced that it had temporally closed the court.

The news of the closure was aired on Bukedde TV 1. The video footage showed several officials at the court closing offices.

The Judiciary spokesperson, Erias Kisawuzi, however told the New Vision that they had cleared the bill though he failed to disclose the actual amount they had cleared.

“We have cleared the bill,” he confirmed.

However, by Wednesday afternoon,  the court had not resumed its operations.

Kumi County MP Amuriat Oboi Patrick said the closure is a scandle that should not be taken lightly.

“This is a shame to our government. How can a court of a division be closed over such a small matter. This is total madness,” he said.

Former opposition chief whip Kassiano Wadri said this is an embarrassment to the people in charge of the sector.

“I am disappointed. This sector is one of the sectors that receive little funding compared to StateHouse, defence, health and others. I think it is high time that government puts them on one of the priority sectors that need more money in the next budget,” he added.

Makindye East MP John Simbwa said the closure is a sign of weak administration on the side of the Judiciary.
